To the Trade | 5 Questions with Cadine

In the Studio

From the moment they opened their doors, I’ve been including pieces from Cadine in both client projects and my own home. This carefully curated and styled shop is a lifestyle brand with a focus on timeless design and natural materials. From homeware to clothing, fine jewellery to fresh flowers, their flagship store in the heart of Cambie Village offers a curated collection that embodies their commitment to lasting value and the art of design.

Vogue Magazine has recognized Cadine as a top recommendation for discovering debutant brands, talented designers, and groundbreaking projects from all corners of the world.  They also have an online shop where they ship all over North America, bringing their chic lifestyle to many homes.   Luckily for the design community in Vancouver, they are right here in our own neighbourhood!

When the opportunity arose to collaborate with Cadine, I couldn’t wait to work with like-minded creatives – join me in conversation with the founders as we dive into the captivating stories behind their design inspiration, forever favourites, and what’s next as they continue to curate pieces that resonate with both the heart and soul.

QUESTION | TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF! WHO ARE YOU WHEN YOU’RE NOT AT WORK?

In the Summer months, you can find us on our farm. Early mornings are spent maintaining the flower beds followed by a proper meal al fresco at our 15 ft harvest table. This is usually a 3 course affair with endless just-picked garden veggies. No matter how busy we are, the team always makes time to sit down together to break bread.

QUESTION | HOW WAS THE CONCEPT OF CADINE BORN, AND WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS TO BRING IT TO LIFE?

Within our team, we’ve shared stories of some of our beloved possessions and one of these items was a 100% wool cable stitch cardigan that was handknit by her Popo (grandmother) about 30 years ago for her aunt. Its classic pattern, perennial pink hue, saddle brown leather buttons and pure English wool yarn makes it just as relevant and, while unintended, increasingly luxurious with every passing year. While we can’t recreate grandmother’s hand knitting, our interpretation of ageless modern heirlooms will reveal their own symbolic meaning to the user over time.

With every product that we design and procure, we reflect if the piece will capture the essence of these  brand values and hopefully someone will, one day, share a similar story and sentiment when they bring a Cadine piece into their own home.

QUESTION | WHAT CAN OUR CLIENTS EXPECT FROM CADINE WHEN THEY VISIT THE SHOP?

A visit to Cadine begins even before stepping into the store. Our floral cart, cafe tables, curated outdoor music and striking architecture immediately captures the spirit of the brand. Upon entering Cadine, clients will be transported to a place of calm and inspiration. The pleasant scent of fresh peony, premium roses, eucalyptus and greenery fills the air. Eyes are immediately drawn to our fresh flower bar where you can let loose your creativity by selecting your favourite blooms with the help of our florist.
Cadine’s selection of curated homeware, much of which is our own brand, is designed with timeless lasting quality in mind. From exclusive handmade pottery from New York, pure cashmere heirloom throw blankets from Italy to all-natural leather décor made in Canada, we offer a considered selection unavailable anywhere else. And for the true connoisseur, our one-of-a-kind art and curious objects will be sure to delight.

QUESTION | AS A LIFESTYLE STORE, YOU’VE CURATED SO MANY DEPARTMENTS FROM HOME DECOR TO FASHION AND ENTERTAINING. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR PERSONAL FAVOURITE PRODUCTS?

We’ve created a capsule of our tried and true favourites which includes:

QUESTION | WHAT’S NEXT ON YOUR WISHLIST FOR CADINE?

We’re excited for our Summer in Paris collaboration with Megan Baker Interiors. It’s a concept that’s been in the works for some time now and Megan’s beautiful (and practical!) textile collection combined with her unique perspective really mingles well with Cadine’s selection of antiques. We think visitors will be inspired and delighted.

As a still growing Company,  lots of opportunities are being presented to us and it’s all about timing. The right opportunity and the right time.

QUESTION | As a fellow creative, what’s the best design advice you’ve received?

People love to offer advice and it strengthens our resolve to stay true to our values and design aesthetic. If you don’t love it then don’t do it. Invest in what you love.

warmly,
Megan Baker
