A smoky twist with tequila roots
When we wrap up a home, we like to mark the moment with a signature drink. It’s our way of celebrating the personality behind the project and leaning into the lifestyle our clients will enjoy long after the final pillow is fluffed. For our newly completed Bachelor Pad, I went searching for a cocktail with the spirit (literally!) of a classic Old Fashioned—but without the bourbon.
Enter the Oaxaca Old Fashioned, a smoky, spirit-forward classic I discovered via Liquor.com that checks every box. It felt just right for this project: familiar but with a bold, unexpected twist.
Why tequila? The client had a special bottle saved for move-in day, and I loved the idea of choosing something that nodded to that. Plus, during this unusual bourbon-scarce season here in Canada, this version offered the perfect workaround with just as much richness and depth.
